Province finds invasive fish species near Prince George

The province is urging the public not to release aquarium fish in to the wild following the discovery of an invasive species in a Prince George stream.

A small fish, known as the rosy red minnow, which is not native to BC and often sold as a feeder fish, was discovered breeding in a stream that flows in to a Fraser River tributary.

Releasing aquatic fish in to BC rivers and streams is highly fangerous to the ecosystem and illegal.

Ministry staff are now looking in to methods to deal with the problem before it can impact an already delecate seasonal ecosystem.
