Province funds new French teach training spaces to combat shortage

Parents in BC wishing to enroll their children in French language programs are in luck with the province announcing 37 new French teacher training spaces.

With the addition of the new seats, the total number of French teacher education seats funded by the province now sits at 74.

A 41 percent increase in the number of French language speaking students in the province over the past decade has the province short an estimated 100 teachers in the field.

Currently 9.5 percent of the Kindergarten to Grade 12 population in BC are enrolled in French immersion studies.
