After reviewing recommendations from four different reports, the provincial government has released its action plan in response to the 2017 wildfires and floods.
The plan is mainly in response to the government commissioned Abbot/Chapman report, but also considers the auditor general’s report, the Managing Climate Change report, and a federal House of Commons report from this June.
Some of the key actions highlighted in the plan include: building partnerships with Indigenous and local communities to improve preparedness, incorporating traditional Indigenous knowledge in to emergency management plans, developing a new, more inclusive, disaster recovery framework, and improving public information and outreach programs to Indigenous communities.
The government will release biannual updates on the plan throughout the next 2 years.
