Community based child care in BC is set to recieve a boost thanks to two new provincially funded programs.
In an effort to encourage and improve planning at the municipal level, the Community Child Care Planning Program will fund projects which identify the child care needs of a community.
Approved projects will be eligible for up to 25 thousand dollars to develop strategies which can be used to inform future child care space creation.
In addition, the Community Child Care Space Creation Program will award local governments up to 1 million dollars to create new, licensed, child care spaces within their own facilities.
These new spaces must focus on infants and toddlers up to age 5.
Both programs will be administered by the Union of BC Municipalities and must be applied for by January 18th of next year.
