Post-secondary students in BC are set to receive better access to mental health support services and substance-use counselling thanks to the provincial government.
Students aged 15-24 are more likely than any other age group in the province to struggle with mental disorders and substance abuse problems.
In a recent survey by the National College Health Association, more than 44 percent of students polled reported struggling with mental illness, and 13 percent had considered suicide.
Currently there is no province-wide conselling service available for students.
The proposed project, posted to BC Bid, will make 24/7 services available via phone, text, email, or online chat.
