The province is boosting funding for Aboriginal skills training.
Up to $30 million over the next three years will go into new Aboriginal skill-training projects and partnerships.
The funding will focus mainly on Aboriginal communities that can benefit from LNG development, with hopes of adding 15,000 more Aboriginal workers to the province’s workforce within 10 years.
John Rustad, Minister of Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation, says the program will work with First Nations to identify and overcome barriers to training.
The funds will be managed and distributed by the Ministry of Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation.
The province touts the program as designed for and with First Nations communities.
