For a third straight year, the province will be attempting to mitigate the spread of Douglas Fir Beetles by employing helicopter logging in the Williams Lake area.
Helicopter logging operations are expected to begin southwest of Williams Lake as early as Thursday, and slowly move south from there, closing operations by mid-March.
These efforts are just some of those being used by the province to halt the spread of the beetles as part of their Williams Lake Beetle Management Unit 2018 Treatment Plan.
Other efforts include: using pheromones to disrupt attacks, establishing trap trees, utilizing funnel traps, and, in extreme cases, chopping down and burning certain trees on-site.
