With more than 530 active wildfires still burning in the province, the government has been forced to extend the province-wide state of emergency.
Initially declared on August 15th, the state of emergency will now stretch through to September 12th, with an option to extend it further after that.
The declaration ensures that Emergency Management BC and the BC Wildfire Service will have access to all resources needed to help the more than 3 thousand residents forced from their homes across the province.
Last year’s state of emergency lasted for 10 weeks after being extended 4 times.
