Psychologist testifies in trial of Damien Taylor

A forensic psychologist has told a BC Supreme Court jury in Kamloops that a 24-year-old Terrace-area man accused of killing his pregnant girlfriend could have been psychotic from days of crystal-meth use and lack of sleep.

Dr. Sunette Lessing made the comments at the second degree murder trial of Damien Taylor, while she commented on his apparently calm demeanour caught by surveillance tape in December 2012, as he waited for a bus from Kamloops to Prince George.

Crown says Taylor’s quiet state contradicts his account that he was hallucinating from drug use and running from what he believed were pursuers after finding 16-year-old CJ Fowler dead beside him in a Kamloops park.

Taylor testified in his own defence earlier this week and frequently asked for questions to be repeated during cross-examination and gave conflicting accounts of some of his actions, but Lessing says he scores well on most measures of intelligence.
