A new partnership between the Lhtako Dene First Nation and the City of Quesnel aims to bring an Indigenous Culture Centre to the community.
Initial designs and concepts for the Centre will be developped by Formline Architecture, who specialize in environmentally responsible, and culturally sensative projects.
Discussions regarding the building of a Culture Centre first emerged prior to the Nation signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the City in 2017.
Ceal Tingley Park, which holds cultural significance to the Lhtako Dene as the point of first European contact, is the proposed site of the project.
Funding for the project will come from a combination of the Cariboo-Chilcotin Beetle Action Coalition, Cariboo Strong, and the Rural Dividends Fund.
