The City of Quesnel is closing the Johnston Bridge to all vehicle traffic as a safety precaution.
Officials say the bridge will be shut down as of 9 this morning to all but bicycles and pedestrians after a recent inspection revealed sections of the span’s structure are compromised.
Industrial traffic will have to detour through Red Bluff via Plywood Road and Maple Drive and will not be allowed to detour through Johnston Subdivision.
McCall Engineering will assess the structure of the bridge and determine what vehicle loads are able to safely cross.
The City says Baker Creek Bridge and Moffat Bridge are in good condition.
