Quesnel Mayor Bob Simpson says it’s a small price to pay to keep the city’s hospital emergency room open full-time.
Council has passed a motion to cover $4800 in lease payments to house two relief doctors coming to the city.
Simpson says Quesnel, which should have about 32 general pracitioners, is facing what he calls a bit of an exodus of doctors.
Simpson says Northern Health made the lease arrangements for a furnished home near GR Baker Hospital, council will pay the $1200 a month rent for 4 months, and a local car dealership is providing insured vehicles for the locum physicians.
One of the relief doctors arrived this month and the other is expected in August.
Simpson says a full-time ER physician has been recruited to start work in October.
