RCMP say a ten-plus hour standoff with a man in Prince Rupert came to a peaceful conclusion Wednesday afternoon.
The incident began at 2:30 that morning when Mounties were called to an assault with a weapon at a home in the 200 block of 5th Ave West.
Officers found a 54 year-old man with a gash to his head who was taken to hospital for treatment, but the 47 year-old suspect in the case refused to come out of the home.
RCMP called in extra help, cordoned off the area, and evacuated two neighbouring homes while they continued to communicate with the man.
Police say they made use of “specialized tactics” shortly before 1:00 p.m. and were able to get the man to leave the residence and take him in to custody.
Prince Rupert RCMP are extending their thanks to the public for their cooperation during the incident.
