The North District Major Crime Unit has been called in to investigate after a suspicious death in Bella Bella.
RCMP were notified about a man in distress in the water near the government dock at about 12:15 Saturday. The man was pulled to shore by community members just before police got to the scene and started CPR.
The man was transported to hospital but did not survive.
RCMP are investigating the possibility that the victim may have been involved in an altercation before police were called to the scene.
Because local police were also involved in providing first aid to the man, the Independent Investigations Office has also been notified.
The man’s name and age have not been released.
Anyone with information about the incident or a possible altercation before the man ended up in the water should contact RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
