RCMP confirm they will be enforcing an injunction against Indigenous camps preventing access to Wet’suwet’en territory near Houston Monday.
The interim injunction granted last month gave those preventing access to Coastal GasLink workers 72 hours to remove any barriers to the Morice River Bridge or the Morice West Forest Service Road.
Jennifer Wickham, a member of the Gidimt’en clan of the Wet’suwet’en Nation, says they received reports of a large gathering of RCMP earlier this morning.
Wickham says those occupying the Gidemt’em checkpoint have no intention of leaving and are creating a safe zone as they await the arrival of hereditary chiefs.
In a statement issed this morning, RCMP say they are hopeful there will not be “violence or disorder” as they enforce the injunction.
Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Nathan Cullen says he also plans to travel to the area today and will issue a statement.
