Kitimat RCMP are warning parents to speak to their children about personal safety.
Police say around 7pm on September 24th, an unknown man approached a 14-year old girl walking on Gitskan Avenue in Kitatmaat Village if she wanted a ride.
He continued to ask the girl if she wanted a ride, and if she was going to the store and if he could buy her something.
The girl said no both times, and the man eventually drove away.
Police say the man is described as Caucasian with white/grey medium to short hair, clean shaven, with brown eyes, wearing a brown jacket and “skinny” glasses.
He was driving a white two-door truck, possibly a Ford or Chevy, with a red external tidy tank in the rear box, but no license number was recorded.
Mounties commend the girl for her quick thinking and refusing to get into the car, and stress the importance of parents talking to their children about safety and having a safety plan in place.
They also ask anyone with information about this incident to call Kitimat RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
