The Regional District of Bulkley Nechako is banning cardboard at all of its landfill sites and transfer stations.
According to the motion passed by the Board of Directors last month, cardboard will no longer acceptable as garbage by July 1st of 2016.
The RDBN says the ban will apply to all residents, businesses, municipalities, industries, schools, and hospitals.
To help out , the regional district says it will make sure cardboard recycling drop-off opportunities are available for residents.
But institutional, commercial, and industrial customers will be on their own to arrange for cardboard recycling services.
The RDBN says the ultimate goal is to minimize waste that ends up in the landfill, although the board admits it will cause some challenges and concerns from both residents and business.
It`s also hoping advanced notice of the ban will spur some green business opportunities.
