The Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine are set to be recognized for their efforts in improving waste management.
On Wednesday, August 22nd, the District will be awarded a Gold Excellence Award at the Solid Waste Association of North America’s WASTECON conference in Nashville.
The District is being recognized in the Integrated Solid Waste Management category for their Terrace Area Integrated Solid Waste Management Program.
With the goal of minimizing waste generation and maximizing diversion of solid waste, the program hopes to protect health and environment, add fiscal stability, and meet community affordibility expectations.
The program has optimized waste management by pooling infrastructure, services, programs, bylaws, and policies together under one system.
