Reports says feds left $1 billion unspent in Aboriginal Affairs

The CBC has uncovered documents that show the Department of Aborginal Affairs left $1 billion unspent from its budget.

According to the CBC, the department left $200 million unspent for the last five years.

Willie Blackwater is a councillor with the Gitsegukla First Nation, and he says even a small portion of that unspent amount could have made a major impact on his community.

He says he wants answers from the government in regards to the news.

According to the CBC report, the Ministry of Aboriginal Affairs says spending delays are common and is due to negotiations with other parties.
