RCMP say the Quesnel River is running too fast for searchers to safely look for a vehicle that could be under water.
Quesnel Mounties were called out to Bastion Road Sunday after a resident noticed debris and vehicle tracks near the river.
Investigators found a licence plate at the scene but have still not been able to contact the owner of the plate.
The RCMP Underwater Recovery Team went to the site Tuesday, but police say the river flow-rate is currently above five knots making any attempt to enter the river extremely dangerous.
Quesnel RCMP plan to work with local search and rescue to monitor the river’s speed and water levels to find out when it’s safest to search.
Police are not releasing name of the licence plate owner.
