Safety experts say BC residents need to exercise more caution when attempting to beat the heat on the water.
Extreme temperatures in recent days have led many to the lakes and rivers to cool down, but unfortunately they have also led to a number of tragic events.
AdventureSmart BC says those heading to the waters need to be more aware of their surroundings and of the speeds that the waters are running.
According to Boating BC, the preparation of proper safety equipment is also key and those heading out on the waters should always bring a life jacket, whistles, waterproof flashlights, and flares and bilge pumps if necessary.
