The Nechako Lakes School District has announced consultation meetings as it ponders possible school closures.
The district board says declining enrollment in the Fraser Lake and Fort St. James areas has forced it to consider potential reconfiguration and school closures in both communities.
Enrollment in Fort St. James has dropped from 900 students in 2000/2001 to 594 this year while the Fraser Lake/Fort Fraser enrollment has gone from 664 to 464 over the same time period.
The board is inviting the public to consultation meetings on April 27th in Fort St. James and April 29th in Fraser Lake and Fort Fraser.
Those that would like to make a presentation at the meetings should contact the District 91 board office.
The Board is expected to make a decision about any possible changes or school closures at its June 22nd meeting.
