Crews have called off the search for a missing boater in Douglas Channel near Kitimat.
Two people were on board a four-metre long aluminum vessel when it overturned Thursday night in heavy rain and near zero visibility.
One of the two people tried to swim to shore and was rescued by a First Nations fisheries officer about 150 metres from land and then taken to hospital to be treated for hypothermia.
The second boater was last seen clinging to the overturned boat.
Captain Zlatko Neral with the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Victoria says searchers found the boat Friday morning, but not the missing person.
Neral says a civilian helicopter was joined by a Canadian Forces Cormerant at the scene shortly before noon and a Buffalo search and rescue plane along with vessels from the Coast Guard, RCMP and the Haisla Nation.
RCMP say all water North of Coste Island was searched, including extensive shoreline search and the estuary with no sign of the boater.
Crews called off the search late Friday afternoon. The missing boater is presumed drowned.
