The Coast Guard has confirmed a fuel spill on the BC Central Coast over the weekend.
Officials say they were alerted Saturday morning that the cargo vessel Central Coaster had lost a fuel truck into Spiller Channel.
The truck, carrying 18,500 litres of diesel, was submerged in about 45 feet of water.
Crew from the cargo ship boomed the area around the truck and the Coast Guard says its Bella Bella life boat brought pollution response gear to the area. They were joined by a skimmer from Shearwater Marine.
The Coast Guard says the truck was recovered from the water at approximately 4:45 Sunday. Estimates put the size of the diesel leak at 4,500 litres.
Officials say cleanup operations have wrapped up and the fuel truck was sent back to Shearwater overnight.
