Skeena MLA Ellis Ross has sent an open letter to Premier John Horgan in support of LNG Canada’s proposed plant in Kitimat.
The plant needs only a final investment decision to move forward, but a recent application to the National Energy Board could threaten that decision.
The application states that the Coastal Gaslink Pipeline supplying power to the plant puts it under NEB jurisdiction.
According to Ross, however, the plant clearly falls in to the BC Oil and Gas Commission’s jurisdiction.
Ross says that the Commission’s jurisdiction extends to all pre-activity consultations, permitting, construction, and operation according to the BC Oil and Gas Act.
Ross goes on to say that LNG Canada has worked to fulfill or exceed all mandates in the process and that the project could be a step towards reconcilliation as it is supported by 95 percent of First Nations in the area.
The letter closes with a request for intervention by Premier Horgan for what Ross calls the future of the province.
