Slow down and move over for emergency vehicles

Terrace RCMP plan to crack down on drivers who don’t slow down and move over for parked emergency vehicles.

The law requires motorists to slow to 70 km/h on highways with a speed limit of 80 km/h or higher and to 40 km/h on roads with a speed limit under 80 km/h when approaching a stopped official vehicle with flashing lights.

Constable Angela Rabut says the increased enforcement comes after a number of close calls.

Rabut says official vehicles include police, fire, ambulance, tow trucks, Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement, park rangers, conservation officers, and transportation inspectors.

Failing to slow down and move over can result in a fine for $173 and three penalty points.
