As of noon today, all campfires within the town of Smithers are banned until further notice.
Open fires are also included in the ban, though flames contained within stoves using gas or propane are not.
The ban is the result of high wildfire chances in the area recently, and represents an attempt to quell human-caused fires.
The town made no mention of when the ban would be lifted.
