Smithers Fire and Rescue has been recognized nationally for their fundraising efforts in support of Muscular Dystrophy Canada.
Since 1991, the department has raised more than 1 million dollars for the charitable organization.
As a result, they were honoured with the National 2018 Doctor David Green Impact Award during a ceremony last month.
According to the department, raising money to fight the degenerative disease has been a tradition since 1954.
On top of that, the department was also honoured with the BC/ Yukon Bill Grindlay Fire Department of the Year Award, and the Top single Department Event Award.
Last year, the department raised more than 50 thousand dollars during fundraising events, due largely to their annual Harley Davidson Rafle.
Tickets for this year’s raffle go on the market on November 17th.
