Smithers losing CAO to Campbell River

The Town of Smithers is losing its Chief Administrative Officer to the island.
After nine years in the position, Deborah Sargent is leaving to take on the role of City Manager for Campbell River.
Sargent is credited with helping Smithers expand its airport runway, establish the Wetzink’wa Community Forest, development of a second ice arena, and a protocol agreement with the the Office of the Wet’suwet’en.
Smithers Mayor Taylor Bachrach says Sargent leaves the community with a strong foundation and an excellent team to help the town as it continues to develop.
Mayor and council will start looking for a replacement for Sargent, who will remain as CAO until September 11th.
