On November 12, around 6pm, the Smithers RCMP received a call about a man who was slumped over the steering wheel of white Toyota parked in a driveway in the 3200 block of Railway Ave.
The caller was concerned the man had passed out.
When an officer neared the car, the Toyota swerved towards his police car, forcing the officer off the road.
The officer attempted to stop the suspect vehicle, but it fled away at high speed.
For public safety reasons, the officer didn’t pursue the suspect.
After an investigation, charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from a police officer, and breach of recognizance were approved by Crown Counsel on November 20th against 33 year old Jesse Thomas White.
White was arrested on November 18 in Smithers, at the time of his arrest he had three outstanding warrants.
