Smithers RCMP didn’t take any chances after they were alerted to threats of violence on social media post shortly before midnight Thursday.
Investigators say the implied threats were directed at students and teachers, although no specific person or school was mentioned.
Mounties say they took immediate action to ensure the safety of community members and arrested one person, although no details about the individual have been released.
Given heightened awareness and the recent school shooting in Florida, RCMP say threats are no joking matter. Police say uttering threats verbally, in writing, or implying a threat is an offence under the Criminal Code and will not be tolerated.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Smithers RCMP at 250 847-3233 or Crime Stoppers at 1 800 222-8477
