The Smithers Regional Airport opened up their new 118 person departure lounge today.
As part of the larger Airport Modernization Project, the lounge has expanded to allow larger planes to use the the airport, and added improved heating, ventilation, and fire suppression systems.
As a whole, the project aims to reduce green house gas emmissions by 53 percent, and reduce energy usage by 39 percent during the construction process.
A new lobby, baggage area, check-in area, and security area, as well as exterior modifications are still on the slate for the project.
