Smithers council has scrapped a proposal to build a gathering place to take pressure off Bovill Square.
The idea would have seen the town build a gathering area and shelter to try and reduce the number of intoxicated and possible trouble makers gathering in one spot.
Mayor Taylor Bachrach says the idea was brought forward after people started seeing impacts on the gathering in Bovill Square.
Mayor Bachrach was disappointed seeing the idea axed, but wants to ensure the entire community is on board before going ahead with a project.
He wants to remind residents that it’s important to help out anyone who may be struggling in Smithers.
He says council and staff will explore other options to try and find a solution to address concerns residents have.
Bachrach is eager to work with all levels of government, community groups and residents to explore any options that are available.
