The Ministry of Environment and the Northern Health Authority have issued a Smokey Skies Advisory for the Cariboo region including Prince George and Vanderhoof.
Wildfires in the area have continued to burn out of control causing smoke to cover the region. The concentrations of smoke throughout the day will depend on winds, fire behaviour and temperature changes.
The bulletin will remain in effect until further notice and residents are advised to avoid strenuous outdoor activity.
If you are experiencing difficulty in breathing, chest pain or discomfort, or sudden onset of cough or irritation please contact your health care provider. Infants, elderly and those with underlying medical conditions are most at risk.
People are also being advised if you are staying inside to continue to be aware of symptoms, stay cool and drink plenty of fluids. Locations like shopping malls have cooler filtered air. Air conditioners do not filter air or improve indoor air quality.
