Smoky conditions in the Kispiox Valley due to two wildfires

The BC Wildfire Service says two fires burning northwest of Kispiox are creating smoke in the valley.

The Pope Fire, a 450 hectare blaze, is burning 25 km northwest of Kispiox.  Officials say the fire did cross the Pope Forest Service Road Friday, but crews were able to contain the flames.

The wildfire service says an equipment-made guard encircles the fire 100 percent.  The fire is not a threat to Kispiox at this time.

The Cutoff Mountain Fire is burning bout 35 kilometres northwest of Kispiox.  The lightning-caused fire is burning around 80 hectares in size.

The BC Wildfire Service says Smoke is visible from the fire due to large amounts of unburned fuel within the containment lines.

The Cutoff Mountain Fire is currently being monitored.
