Snow level could increase flood risk for parts of central BC

The BC River Forecast Centre says higher than normal snowpacks could lead to an increased flood risk in parts of central BC.

It says the Upper Fraser West snowpack is at 148 per cent of normal and there are similar pockets of snow posing increased flood risk for places like Houston, Burns Lake, and Vanderhoof.

Dave Campbell is the head of the BC River Forecast Centre.

Campbell says there are also pockets of high snow levels in the West Chilcotin and Cariboo Mountains but says conditions may change with two or more months left in the snow accumulation season.
