The BC River Forecast Centre says the next few weeks will be critical for potential flooding along the Bulkley River near Smithers.
Centre head David Campbell says water levels on the Bulkley are about 30 cm below where some localized flooding typically occurs.
The River Forecast Centre says much of the snowpack at lower and mid-elevation levels has melted, but higher elevation snow levels have actually increased since last month.
Forecasters say exceptionally high snowpacks at higher elevations could spell trouble for the Upper Fraser west, Nechako Basin, and the Cariboo-Central Interior.
The May 1 snow survey measurements will be released next week.
