The Stk’emlúpsemc te Secwépemc Nation is saying no to a gold and copper mine.
The nation says their environmental assessment shows potential impacts to species and sacred land in the Kamloops area is not worth the short term benefits.
Ron Ignace is a chief councillor for one of the communities in the nation. He says it was important for their study to use both traditional laws and beliefs as well as non-native material to come up with decision.
He says other groups have praised the comprehensiveness of their study.
The company behind the mining project says in a statement they respect the information brought by SSN and they look forward to working with them further to explore other options.
