Smithers and area residents will gather this morning to honour missing and murdered Indigenous women along the Highway of Tears and across Canada.
The annual Stolen Sisters memorial March is scheduled to start at 10:30 at the corner of Main St. and Highway 16.
Molly Wickham, who works with the Northern Society for Domestic Peace, says violence affects everyone, but Indigenous women face particular risks.
While Wickham says awareness about the violence that plagues Aboriginal women is a big piece, she says here needs to be more accountability at all levels of government and in the community.
The march will proceed down Main St. towards the friendship centre hall where lunch and speakers will follow.
