Students in Kitsumkalum create music video to bring awareness of Highway of Tears

‘Na Aksa Gyilak’yoo School students in Kitsumkalum have created a song to bring awareness to the Highway of Tears.

A group of eight students created the song and music video to honour and remember those who were murdered or who have gone missing along Highway 16.

Elijah Stephens is one of the students who took part and says it was very emotional to work on.

It took the students a few weeks to create the video and lyrics for the song.

Principal Colleen Austin hopes the video will create greater awareness on the issue of violence against Aboriginal women.

The students will be preforming the song live in front of 600 people at an education conference in Vancouver in April.

The music video can be found here.
