Terrace is close to sponsoring refugees fleeing the civil war in Syria.
The Terrace Sponsors Syrian Refugee Families group says they’re ready to accept a family, or individual by the end of the year.
Sasa Loggins of the Skeena Diversity Society says there’s a group of five people who are financing the sponsorship.
She says they’re hoping to find another group of five who can sponsor another family, or a single woman.
Multiple media outlets have reported women refugees being targets of sexual abuse.
Loggins says the fundraising committee will next meet at 6:30pm on November 23 at the Skeena Diversity Society.
People can make donations at the Northern Savings Credit Union to the “Refugee Sponsorship Account.”
More information can be found at their Facebook page at: Terrace Sponsors Syrian Refugee Families.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has pledge to bring in 25,000 Syrian refugees by the end of the year.
Some Canadian politicians are criticizing the speed in which the federal government is planning to bring in the refugees, particularly after the terrorist attacks in Paris last Friday.
But others note that the refugees are fleeing a country where attacks like the one in Paris are a daily occurrence.
