The Tahltan Central Government have penned a letter to the Provincial Government requesting an immediate hunting ban on their territories.
Due to the wildfires devastating Tahltan land, a local state of emergency has been in place since early August with more than 300 residents forced to evacuate.
According to Tahltan President Chad Norman Day, band members have discovered fleeing animals with fire-scorched fur, and road kill in their territory has increased significantly.
As a result, Tahltan hunters will be refraining from hunting until the state of emergency is lifted, and the Tahltan Central Government is asking the province to make the ban official.
