The President of the Tahltan Central Government has posted a message to Tahltan Nation members coping with wildfires burning in their territory.
Chad Norman Day took to Facebook Monday night outlining various meetings he and the TCG team have been undertaking as wildfires spread across the region.
Day says nobody expected the fires to spread as rapidly as they have.
In a news release issued Monday, the Tahltan leadership urged members not to return to Tahltan territory unless it’s absolutely necessary. Day adds that Dease Lake may soon find itself in a similar situation as Telegraph Creek if dry, windy conditions prevail.
He says both Dease Lake and Iskut are making preparations to evacuate if necessary.
Day expressed his thanks to all the firefighters helping Tahltan communities and commended Chief Rick McLean for his handling of the Telegraph Creek evacuation.
