The winners of the 7th Annual BC Aboriginal Business Awards have been announced.
The Tahltan Nation Development Corporation won in the Community-Owned Business of the Year category.
Garry Merkel is the CEO of the TNDC and he says building up the business has been a community exercise with everybody pitching in.
He says there are two keys to building a successful community-owned business.
First is having a clear separation between the business and the government, but with each supporting the other.
The second being ensuring the business is professionally operated, and gives its staff proper support.
But he adds, also don’t to forget to have fun.
The award will be presented at a ceremony in Vancouver on October 14th.
