Taseko taking federal gov’t to court over failed New Prosperity mine

Taseko Mines has filed a civil claim in BC Supreme Court against the federal government.

Brian Battison is with Taseko, and alleges Ottawa failed to meets its legal duties and caused damages, expenses and loss to Taseko.

The company failed twice to get an environmental assessment certificate for its New Prosperity gold-copper mine in the Cariboo.

Battison says the damages could be significant, but ultimately up to the court to decide.

The Tsilhqot’in National Government has been vocal over its opposition to the mine, which is in their declared aboriginal title area.
