Telkwa council is turning to its residents for help in its dispute with ICBC.
Residents of Telkwa pay more for their vehicle insurance because ICBC considers it part of the Prince George area, even though it’s about 350 kilometres away.
Telkwa mayor Darcy Repen says that means increased costs.
Smithers, which is about 15 kilometres away from Telkwa, is part of the northern area that pays a lower insurance rate.
Repen says they’ve talked to ICBC, but it doesn’t sound like changing its internal boundaries is a high priority.
Telkwa council is asking people to call ICBC to readjust its rate boundaries.
Repen adds, this just doesn’t affect Telkwa, but all towns along the Highway 16 corridor to Prince George.
