TELUS launches wireless service along Highway 16 between Smithers and Houston

Drivers along Highway 16 between Smithers and Houston will now be able to access cell service.

TELUS has launched a new wireless site along the Highway which will provide wireless services along a 13 kilometre stretch of the road, including the community of Telkwa.

“TELUS’ investment in this site will ensure travelers and residents can make calls along this stretch of highway, and, critically, reach 911 in the event of an emergency,” said Lance MacDonald, TELUS General Manager for Northern British Columbia. “With this new site, TELUS now provides wireless services to more than 508 kilometres of Highway 16 between Prince Rupert and Prince George.”

The million-dollar investment by TELUS is part of a 10-year strategic partnership with the provincial government signed in 2011.

Under the deal, TELUS will connect over 1.700 kilometres of unconnected highways with wireless service.
