It took about 12 hours, but Telus crews were able to restore internet, mobile, and long distance services to Kitimat by 1 pm Wednesday.
Kitimat RCMP says the outage was caused when a pickup truck crashed into a utility pole along Highway 37 near cemetery hill around 1 am.
The crash severed a Telus fibre optic cable causing a widespread outage in the community, including the RCMP detachment.
Police say the 30-year-old Prince Rupert man at the wheel of the truck suffered minor injuries in the crash while the vehicle was heavily damaged. Highway 37 was reduced to single lane alternating traffic for much of the afternoon.
RCMP are still investigating, but believe alcohol is a contributing factor in the collision.
Telus says technicians are still trying to restore services to residents in the Lakelse Lake area.
The company says damage to its infrastructure was extensive and it thanks customers for their patience.
