Funding has been approved to move forward on the Terrace Aquatic Centre upgrade.
The project is slated to cost $8.8-million and will make the pool more accessible and add features like a lazy river.
The city is getting over $4-million in funding from a gas tax fund by the federal and provincial governments.
Council approved borrowing the additional $4-million and will find out how much the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine will contribute in a few weeks.
The amount borrowed could go down slightly as applications for grants are still pending approval.
Leisure Services Director Carmen Didier says the next step is to finalize the contract and begin construction.
Mayor Carol Leclerc says this project is an other example of the city upgrading their infrastructure.
The pool will close on March 19th and it’s expected to re-open January 1st, 2018.
