The City of Terrace has signed a Friendly Exchange Agreement with the Chinese city of Qinhuangdao.

A number of officials from Qinhuangdao were in Terrace today to sign the agreement.

While the agreement doesn’t have any tangible outcomes, it does lay out the groundwork for future cooperation.

The two cities agree to conduct exchanges on a wide range of topics; from economics, to culture, to sports, and education.

Terrace mayor Carol Leclerc says this is just the first step in the relationship.

Last year the city sold 480 hectares of the Skeena Industrial Development Park to Taisheng International Investment
Services for $11.8 million.

Taisheng plans to build an alfalfa protein extraction plant, with construction beginning in 2017 or 2018.
